Dr. Ambedkar talks about "POONA PACT" on 24/09/1932

Post  nikhil_sablania on Wed Nov 03, 2010 11:45 pm

‎"How can one day's common elections alter the situation (of Schedule Caste in India)?" Dr. BR Ambedkar

"If you have a common electorate we (Dalits) would be submerged & the nominees of the schedule caste who would be elected, who would be really slaves of the Hindus not independent people."

‎"Give us a separate electorate and also give us a second vote in the general election."

‎"For five years we live separately from Hindus with no kind of intercourse or intercommunication, of a social or spiritual sort. What can cycle of participation in a common electorate do to remove this hard & crust of separatism which has grown for centuries, is a foolish thing to think that if two people vote together in a common poling booth that their hearts are going to change."

"Give the untouchables two votes, and give them a population representation of ratio so that the weightage would be in terms of votes and not in terms of representatives."

"(MK) Gandhi's object was that we (Dalits) should not get free independent representative."

"He (MK Gandhi) said, "I (MK Gandhi) recognize only three communities, namely Hindus, Muslims & Sikhs. These are the only three communities that will have a political recognition in the constitution." But the Christians or the Anglo Indians or the Schedule caste will have no place in the constitution. They must merge themselves into the general community." That was the stand that he (Gandhi) had taken."

"All his (MK Gandhi) friends were asking him that how foolish was his attitude. His own friends had quarreled with him on this subject that if you are prepared to give special representation to the Sikhs & the special representation to the Musalmaan who are thousand time superior in strength & political & economical stamina, how can you denied to the Schedule Caste or to the Christian?"

"French woman who was his (MK Gandhi) disciple, had a great quarrel with him, that we don't understand this attitude. Either you say we won't give anything to anybody, let there just be a common road, than we can understand this that this is a democratic thing. But go on saying that you will give it to the Musalmaan & you give it to the Sikhs but not to the Schedule Caste seems absurd." He could give no answer."

‎"How can one day's common elections alter the situation (of Dalits in India)? Simply can not alter the situation."

"He (MK Gandhi) was never a mahatmaa (a holy man), I refuse to call him mahatmaa. I have never in my life called him mahatmaa."

"He (MK Gandhi) doesn't deserve that title (mahatma - a holy man), not even from the point of view of his morality."
