Welcome to the Land of Untouchability

Many people visit Rajasthan every year to see palaces, costumes, landscapes and camels. But what they couldn't see in this state of India is "UNTOUCHABILITY" which is the most peculiar feature of this state like other Indian states. "Padharo Mahre Des" (Welcome to my country) is a welcome sentence spoken in Rajasthani language. But what they do not say is "WELCOME TO THE LAND OF UNTOUCHABILITY." This state is on the top of the list of all Indian states when it comes to an ill practice of untouchability in twenty first century. So worst is this practice that most of the untouchables (Scheduled Castes) migrated out of this state with full intention of never returning to this land again. So prevalent is untouchability that it has inspired Hindi filmmaker JP Dutta to make a big movie on this issue. A well made movie with famous song, Gulami. Our caste also left this land of Manu, the profounder of untouchability around hundred years back. My last visit to relatives' home was in 1997 when the world was preparing to enter into a millennium of internet, palm tops, genetic sciences and space colonies. But to my surprise the untouchability was as firmly rooted even in the capital of the state, famously called as the Pink City, Jaipur. Since then I never visited that land again (except one forced visit by family eight years back). An honors graduated in psychology, a post graduate diploma-holder in film and TV direction and screenplay writing from institute of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, a filmmaker who represented India at Beijing Film Academy China, a businessman and now a Law student at Delhi University, I fear of this state and don't have courage to visit this place again, due to it's peoples custom of carrying the ill-practice of untouchability.
