DALITS ARE DISAPPOINTED BY US PRESIDENT OBAMA's VISIT- Dr Udit Raj

New Delhi, 2nd November, 2010.

Dr. Udit Raj, National Advisor of Dr. Ambedkar Parinirvan Bhoomi Samman Karyakram Samiti, said when Mr. Barack Obama, belonging to black origin, became the President of USA, the Dalits in India were very happy. It is not long that the whites traded blacks. Till 1955, the first right to sit in buses was for the whites. It is greatness of whites that the slavery system was abolished sooner which is still desired in India. Recently, in Malikpur Village of Muraina Distt. in Madhya Pradesh when a dalit gave a slice of bread to a pet owned by upper caste person, the dog also became untouchable. When reservation to the postings of cooks was done for mid day meals in U.P., the school children boycotted that how can a dalit prepare food for them? Unfortunately,the reservation policy was scrapped. On the other hand, the society where the whites are in majority, they elected a non white person to the post of President and erased the stigma of racism and assured that the US will be a super power forever. Nothing is more important than society. The development of society is not possible if there is internal conflicts and abhorrence. Due to this, India is unable to face a small country, Pakistan, which itself is going under internal crisis, dares every day.

Dr. Udit Raj requested President Obama, Secretary of State Mrs. Hillary Clinton and the US Ambassador at New Delhi that the President Obama should spare some time from his busy schedules to pay homage to Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at 26 Alipore Road (the place where he breathed his last). He also requested Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister and the Minister for External Affairs to include the visit in the itinerary of President Obama.

Unfortunately, the US Ambassador replied that Mr. Obama has a tight schedule and so the request can not be accepted. Letter is available with us. When Obama will visit the Rajghat and mention in the speeches about other eminent personalities of India who will be mostly from upper castes, what will be the thinking of dalits? Definitely, they will think that those who were slave till yesterday, they forgot the slavery of others.

Dr. Udit Raj further added that the Indian industrialists should learn from American society. In India, not a single dalit is in the club of billionaires while there are many blacks among top capitalists. In USA, not only Govt. has inclusiveness for Hispanics, Aborigines and Blacks but private sector feels proud to accommodate these people without being compelled by any law. In India, not a single dalit is CEO of any corporate house and on the contrary, there are more than 100 such blacks in USA. President Obama will be helpful to fight caste discrimination if he takes it up in his statement and terms it as modern slavery.

The National Convenor of Dr. Ambedkar Parinirvan Bhoomi Karyakram Samiti, Mr. T.M. Kumar said it is still possible for Mr. Obama and his programme organisers revive his schedule and spare few minutes to pay homage to the Messiah of dalits, Dr. Ambedkar at his memorial. It will help US to get the support of dalits and tribals and at the same time this will strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and US. After all nation is nothing but people live in that. Dalits and Tribals are about 25% in the country. He demanded that some relaxation should be made in visa policy for dalits so that they can improve their economic status by going there.
